Summary:
A grand ceremony for China’s world-class Qingdao Wanda Oriental Film Capital Yacht Harbour was officially launched on Saturday 28th of April.
The Marina and Yacht Club was designed by Scott Carver, partnered alongside the Qingshang Waterfront Space Research Institute. The spectacle is located on the southeast side of the Xingguang Island in Qingdao, China, and is the biggest tourism infrastructure development of its kind. Qingdao is a major coastal tourism hub for China, attracting over 15 million visitors annually.
This ambitious mega project was designed to be “a celebration of China’s emerging yachting and boating sector, delivered as part of Wanda Group’s new tourism and entertainment island”, said Scott Carver Director, Andrew Turnbull.

Despite wild weather conditions, the project was delivered in 1, 679 days. Meeting all of the strict international standards, the harbour spans a total sea area of 20.91 hectares and has 1,124m of breakwater designed to externally protect against record waves and internally absorb against waves or typhoons in the harbor.
Interestingly, the arc of the breakwater was designed to look like an embracing arm, symbolizing the open and inclusive element of the project. The design language of circles and arcs throughout the Marina and Yacht club also was designed to represent the vast connection between China’s land and water.
