Victoria Theatre Renewal
Restoring Victoria theatre to take Centre stage again.
The Victoria Theatre is the oldest surviving theatre in NSW dating to 1891, State Heritage listed, with a rich history of silent pictures, vaudeville and live performance.
Not operating as a theatre since 1965, the venue presents itself today as virtually intact yet in need of care after years of neglect. Scott Carver are working with Century Group to revitalise the Mighty Vic, bringing it back to life whilst respecting its original heritage fabric.
The theatre is located in an area of Newcastle which is currently going through rapid transformation; at its focus is the drive to activate the city centre and growth corridors and promote the night time economy through the delivery of new live performance venues.
The revitalisation of the Victoria Theatre will support this ambition by providing a range of offerings which are inclusive, adaptable, tailored and considered, to forge new connections with the local community as well as the wider audience supporting the cultural and civic growth of Newcastle.
With recent Heritage NSW Approval, the project is currently with Newcastle Council for Development Approval.
