Sydney Slipways
A dramatic location for a key marine facility
Challenge
The Sydney City Marine, in Rozelle Bay, is directly below the Anzac Bridge – a striking element within the site. The marina’s slipways (facilities used to remove vessels from the water for repairs) cater to vessels more than 100ft long – so safety, security and technical know-how were integral to the project’s success.
Insight
The two main buildings are connected and situated adjacent a hard stand area and piers/pontoons where the majority of the boat maintenance take place.
Solution
In response to the imposing drama of the Anzac Bridge, we set the marina’s service facilities below the bridge’s deck level. This helped ensure the marine facility connected with the surrounding harbour infrastructure and with the bridge above. Careful process planning helped determine the layout of the new facility.
