Otis Bar & Grill
More than cosmetic – a transformative restaurant makeover
Challenge
Commissioned to refurbish this Rydges Hotel restaurant, we identified an opportunity to greatly improve its functionality and access. By flipping the layout, we could improve the restaurant’s visibility and its indoor-outdoor integration, transforming the space into an open and inviting venue.
Insight
Located within the Rydges Hotel Campbelltown, Otis Bar & Grill represents a modern approach to traditional dining. Initiated as a fast tracked refurbishment the project resulted in a complete makeover, with the original interior requiring an extensive upgrade to reflect new expectations in style and purpose to accompany a renewed dining experience and elevated product offering.
Solution
We mapped out a new floorplan that made the most of the venue’s indoor-outdoor setting and improved staff and patron flows. Lush fabrics contrast with timber and metal features, highlighted in the strong design of the bar “cobweb,” which acts as the focal point from which the redesigned spaces radiate. Otis Bar & Grill now enjoys an infusion of daylight that illuminates the carefully considered colour palette of subdued dusty teal hues in the restaurant area and a vibrant saffron palette seen through the bar.

Design inspiration
As some of the existing finishes were retained, their influence on new design elements was critical. Retaining the herringbone panelled timber wall inspired the new angular geometry of the entire space and the brass mesh sculpture that appears overhead of the bar.
