Challenge

Located in the newly created suburb of Wentworth Point on Homebush Bay, Quarterdeck is a residential building which is home to over 500 residents. The development of Wentworth Point is an integral part of a total change of use that is anticipated for the whole of the land on the western shore of Homebush Bay.

Insight

Scott Carver have been the architects on the project since its inception and have worked closely with the client throughout the development. As the ‘pioneer’ building in a community which will see eight further buildings in the 11-hectare site, Quarterdeck has been a great success with purchasers, particularly as they were able to move in to their new homes five months ahead of schedule. Sold off plan the one, two and three bedroom apartments are now fully occupied by their new residents.

Solution

Quarterdeck is situated on the south-west corner of the Master Plan site on 1 Burroway Road, at a significant point of entry to the neighbourhood, and establishes identity and focus to the new development. The development comprises two buildings around the perimeter of the block with a central open space, maximising the residents’ access and views to communal open space as well addressing the scale of the street on four fronts. The height and scale of these buildings vary from four to eight storeys. The eight storey building announces an entry point and adds visual interest to the skyline.
