Munroe and Grace Pavilions
A breakthrough in sustainable Olympic level Pavilion design
Challenge
To build a pavilion for the exhibit of livestock for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Insight
Designed in anticipation of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the RAS Livestock Pavilions represented a breakthrough in sustainable design.
Solution
The visionary design included simple manipulation of geometric and elementary materials to enable the buildings to provide thermal induced ventilation, day-lighting and fire management merely through the shape of the roof, with no more capital cost than a conventional industrial building. Although designed to exhibit livestock, Scott Carver also adapted the buildings to serve as the Main Press Centre for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, transforming the venue into a village within a giant day-lit studio.
