Ironbark Apartments
An affordable housing solution for Sydney
Harold Park was bought by the NSW Harness Racing Club in 1911, and despite beginning as a modest daytime entertainment venue, by the 50s and 60s Harold Park was the social hub of the Inner West. Due to this, Harold Park holds a special place in the hearts of many Australians and was truly an iconic experience.
The challenge was to design an affordable housing development in Harold Park, which is the final piece of the puzzle for the Harold Park urban renewal project. The development needed to provide an opportunity for social interaction among residents, as well as echoing and blending in seemly with the designs of the surrounding area.
Scott Carver designed 75 affordable one, two and three-bedroom apartments, which are sustainable and well proportioned. Every space in the development, both internal and external assists in building a sense of community in this development. Blending effortlessly into the surrounding area, with design references to the terrace houses in the area, the rooftop, which includes community gardens, outdoor seating, a play space and relaxation area, alongside gym facilities, contribute to resident’s greater health and well-being.
