Event George Street 4DX Cinema
A multi-sensory new cinematic experience in Sydney's CBD
Challenge
The design intent was to provide a fresh new face lift while ensuring a comfortable viewing environment for the 4DX cinema audience. The project involves the refurbishment of an existing cinema room with new finishes and equipment, including new carpet and acoustic treatment to the rear walls, new handrails, row signage and low-level lighting. The project brief also called for a new seating layout to suit the new 4DX seats.
Insight
Event Cinema George Street introduces ‘4DX’ an innovative journey expanding the bounds of aural and visual sensations. 4DX is state-of-the-art technology, using the audience's 4 senses by delivering a fully immersive cinematic experience, complete with motion chairs and environmental effects such as wind, rain and scents, synchronised to the movie being watched.
Solution
The interior design project incorporates a coordination in understanding the existing condition to help determine the changes required for the space. A level of investigation was necessary as the project had to work with various existing finishes and conditions which had to be retained. This analysis was an important step to guarantee the outcome of the cinema felt refreshed and new. Two bold graphic carpet options including eyes and shadow puppets of animals were designed.
