Sydney Art Zone
UrbanGrowth NSW issued a public ‘Call for Great Ideas’, to help transform The Bays Precinct, Sydney – a site sitting on the CBD’s edge, offering 80 hectares of largely government-owned land nestled in 94 hectares of waterways.
Presented with a very unique opportunity to transform an area that is underused and largely run-down; Sydney Art Zone Limited, together with Scott Carver, collaborated on a collective vision for The Bays Precinct – a dynamic art zone – that would see stunning waterfront destinations offer the kind of architecture, heritage, parks, promenades and workplaces of which we can be proud.
Armed with a desire to transform the White Bay Power Station and surrounding 10 Hectares of land to a world class contemporary arts precinct – the objective for Sydney Art Zone (SAZ) is to become the cultural centrepiece of The Bays regeneration project, accelerating Sydney’s cultural production and export capacity, and supporting green creative lifestyle opportunities for residents of The Bays and wider Sydney.
SAZ is to be an open, living, supportive environment, supported by the prime objectives of creating an iconic arts centre in the Power Station building and a wider precinct where creative processes and products are developed and made accessible to a wide public audience. This will include, but not be limited to, all forms of art, music, design, performance and creative processes which are contemporary, thoughtful and possibly challenging.
