Designing Affordable Luxury
With Katie Swindells, FFE Designer
With an impressive global interiors portfolio, including the spectacular Atlantis Dubai and Fairmont Amman, Katie Swindells joins Scott Carver with a zest for all things bespoke.
Specialising in FFE Design, Katie is working collaboratively with Scott Carver’s hotel and hospitality clients to introduce unique pieces to our interiors projects.
“Aside from ensuring the individuality at a space, there is so much value in designing bespoke details when looking at hotel interiors”, Katie explains. “Hotel and hospitality FFE dictates higher order quantities, so the beauty in going bespoke means not only a superior quality of product, but also an overall cost saving”.
“Working to a limited budget needn’t translate to ubiquitous and unoriginal design features”. Katie shares that “incorporating custom FFE into hotel interior design is proving to be a real game-changer and especially worthwhile within the 3 and 4-star space”.
In addition to the aesthetic value of including bespoke details, Katie adds that “hotel operators can also benefit greatly from the opportunity to design pieces which are both beautiful and functional, such as a memorable curved sofa bed delivered for Atlantis Dubai”.
In a market striving for authenticity, we’re seeing more and more that guests are responding to unique and memorable experiences. Consequently, the Scott Carver interiors team are working to re-define the traditional interior model by designing luxury at any price point, enhancing liveability and providing the opportunity to customise guest experiences.
Heavily influenced by a project’s locality, Katie is interested in incorporating local references into her design. This allows the design to feed off its surroundings, articulating a project’s individual character and position in the market. She finds that this ‘design thinking’ method ultimately delivers “an inspiring and relevant environment, engaging an emotional response from guests”.
With a diversity of customisable options from loose furniture, lighting, fabrics, wallpaper accessories and even carpet, the bespoke service offering isn’t just reserved for the premium luxury market. Katie is currently working to deliver a select furniture range to Scott Carver’s ongoing relationship with Rydges Campbelltown as well as fully bespoke design for the upcoming Yangon Jasmine Hotel Resort and Entertainment Precinct project located in Myanmar.
