Set in 90 hectares of native cumberland forest and rejuvenated bush land, this complex had a primary function to host equestrian events during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The Centre’s post Olympic role is as an important element in the larger Western Sydney Regional Park. The two principle buildings take inspiration from the simple functional aspects of Australian farm structures in its form and materials. The gentle curve of the main indoor arena takes its cue from the rolling and undulating landscape.

ESD initiatives were integral in the design; natural lighting, thermal comfort, water management and run off control some of the features of the Centre, along with the extensive use of rammed earth walls.

A respectful approach was taken to the preservation of this historic and sensitive landscape. Gentle integration of buildings into the contours of the site, paying homage to the significance of this Aboriginal land.
