Winner of the 2011 AILA New South Wales Urban Design Category for Excellence Award for Landscape Architecture.
The jury citation stated: “Scott Carver used a multi-layered audit and assessment process that bridged environmental systems, urban built form and landscape design, transport planning, social dimensions and economics.
The studies revealed major inconsistencies between the carrying capacity of the land and the local planning controls, which in turn brought into question local traffic and economic modelling. Many of the issues were not previously well understood and yet had major implications for city investment and renewal decision-making.
The methodology employed by Scott Carver incorporated an inclusive community engagement process and award winning interactive 3D visualisations that successfully communicated complex issues at stakeholder forums.
They have had a strong influence on the forward planning for the Newcastle city centre, and as the framework for further more detailed work. This influence extends well beyond that normally associated with an urban design or master planning process, and illustrates the capacity of landscape architects to help educate the community and offer tangible and sustainable solutions for large scale urban revitalisation.”
