The SA2000 Events Consortium approached SCOTT CARVER to become the principal architects for the indoor events venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The venue would house diverse entertainment events from monster truck displays, NBL basketball competitions to orchestral concerts.

The design responds to five major considerations that include patron arrival and circulation in the facility, event and venue loading, unloading and servicing, providing optimal viewing for patrons, project budget and urban design issues.

The building entry is identified by a large spire rising 50 metres into the air and, an information marque. Large eaves overhanging the eastern wing curve down to form the western facade further enhancing the distinctive appearance.

The design received high praise and commendation from industry peers. The consortium was short listed to the final two proponents.
