Drawn Cooked and Delirious

Fuelled by an Architects breakfast for a 130-strong, hungry site labour team, somewhere between the ‘Crave Sydney Food Festival’ and ‘Art and About’, The Residence has rapidly sprung from under the hoarding, progressing skyward under the watchful eye of Hutchinson Builders.

The Scott Carver design team breakfast BBQ for the builders on site coincided with their Site Communication briefing by Hutchinson’s. The 130 strong crowd of hungry sub-contractors were a daunting site for anyone serving up a BBQ that morning. Thankfully, the bacon, eggs, sausage combo’s were cooked to perfection with the crowd left content.

“The construction sequencing has been very smooth considering the complexities involved,” said one contractor. “The process of demolishing (the existing building core); and constructing the new lifts and stairs (while keeping the building standing) is almost complete. The expansion of the building floor plates is well past halfway.”

The building has begun to reveal its final form to Hyde Park and the city skyline with the monumental white concrete frame presenting itself to the War Memorial for the first time.

Finishing trades have begun work on the interiors and will be progressing up through the building over the coming months. Additionally, the first panels of expansive curtain wall glazing on the north façade have been installed, following our recent prototype inspections in China with the Hutchies representatives, which include factory inspections of Yuanda, the world's largest curtain wall fabricator.

The Design Team eagerly await the rise of the curtain wall and construction of the sandstone podium. It appears that the general public has also been taking a keen interest in the build judging by recent posts made at skyscrapercity.com
